Dear Friend -
I'm so glad you found this site!
Why? Because, like my partner Karen (and a surprising number of others),
you're struggling with a condition that so little is known about, yet
it has
managed to utterly disrupt your life… sap your strength, take over your
thoughts and take control of everything.
|
For
you, it's more than being "tired" ...
you're utterly
wiped out... exhausted by showering, making a meal... simple
everyday things seem to take all you have. Of course there are other nagging,
disruptive health problems - stomach issues, allergies, shortness
of breath - that don't help matters.
Just ask yourself how many of these Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms
sound familiar...
- You're always tired... so
much so that you feel like very drop of energy has been drained
from your body. Simple things like showering
and dressing wipe you out.
- Your muscles ache... though there's no reason for the pain
moving is torture - you hurt all over.
- Your throat is often naggingly sore; it hurts to swallow, to talk... it
just plain hurts all the time.
- You might notice the lymph nodes in your neck or armpits are swollen
and sore, especially to any kind of pressure.
- You feel pain that moves from one joint to another, but without any
swelling or redness, just the pain.
- You have headaches or face pain so regularly that you carry pain
reliever with you at all times.
- You're not sleeping well at all, and you wake unrefreshed
and struggling to get yourself going.
- You space out on simple things like turning off the oven, or where
you've left your keys - it's as if you're struggling through
a sort of thick mental fog that makes concentrating harder than it's
ever been.
- You can't seem to tolerate drinking alcohol like you could before - now
even one or two glasses just do not agree with you.
- You alternate between constipation and diarrhea and may even struggle
with bouts of nausea, abdominal pain and bloating; or have been told
you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
- You struggle to hide anxiety or panic attacks that have you fighting
to maintain control, but convinced you are loosing your mind.
- You might find yourself overcome by a persistent sadness that lingers
well past a few weeks. You can't seem to shake it off, or get
yourself back on track.
- You have bouts of dizziness... not enough to pass out, but
enough to keep you off balance, and make you look uncoordinated and
tentative.
- You have seriously dry eyes; dry skin that drinks in moisturizer
and your mouth is so dry sometimes you can barely swallow.
- You have numbness or tingling in your hands and feet or a tingling
that comes on and races through your body.
- You notice your level of pain or other symptoms are aggravated by
changes in weather, cold or drafty places, infections, allergies, hormone
changes, stress, depression anxiety or over doing it.
- You've been poked and prodded, tested and examined endlessly only
to find there's nothing wrong with you.
- You're at the end of your tether... tired of being tired... of
struggling with your aches and pains and the changes you've
had to make in how you live.
If you're nodding "yes" to one (or more) of these, I
want you to know that what's happening is NOT your fault. Not
one bit.
The crippling, life-altering symptoms you're struggling to live with
are your body's way of telling you something's wrong. Your
job is to heed that call and do something about it.
When my partners doctor finally, finally came up with a name
for the way she was feeling after almost two months of visits and tests,
she told me she was actually glad - at least there was a name
for it.
As it turns out Chronic Fatigue Syndrome affects more women than men,
with an estimated one million Americans undiagnosed but trying to cope
with
this little-understood, but totally life changing, condition.
Like you, she was so sick of being sick (not to mention a bit scared
too). We both had lots of questions...

"Overcoming
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Tells You Everything You Need To Know"
When you're feeling so sick it's
hard to think of what to do.
But the truth is, you need to know if what you're dealing with
is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or something else. Knowledge is the key
to eliminating
these disruptive, lingering, debilitating symptoms from your life.
You should know I'm not a doctor or medical specialist and
it's the love of my life, Karen, who was diagnosed with chronic
fatigue syndrome. I watched helplessly as my athletic, energetic, fun
loving partner
fell victim to this crippling illness...
so utterly exhausted she
couldn't
get out of bed, suffering and in pain... just plain miserable. It
was torture to see her this way.
Back then neither of us had ever heard of chronic fatigue syndrome and
what it could do to our lives...
It was only after Karen had a nasty
viral infection and never seemed to shake it that I got a little worried.
Being
completely exhausted and constantly achy became normal... she was
feeling awful, struggling with all she had to get through the day. And
it wasn't
getting any better.
It was only after a lot of very determined effort that we finally got
an answer. I made it my mission to find out all there was to know about
chronic
fatigue syndrome.
Today Karen's back to her old self... actively
involved in sports, her career and running her life. My girl is once
again the full of fun, bundle of energy she was. She's smiling
all the time, comfortable and pain free... healthy
and in charge of her body - feeling better than she has in years.
It's this journey from watching someone I love struggle with exhaustion
to helping her find the treatment that got her up out of bed and back to
her life that's at the heart of Overcoming Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Drawing on the latest research from highly respected sources, you'll
find out what we know about this increasingly common condition... and
what's still up for debate. You'll learn what you can do,
now, to make your worst, most disruptive and uncomfortable symptoms more
bearable.
I wrote Overcoming Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for anyone who is struggling
themselves, or watching someone they love trying to cope with the terrible
exhaustion, the nagging aches and pains, the trouble sleeping... all
the awful, trying symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and searching
for answers.

"Facts
About Chronic Fatigue Syndrome You Need To Know"
Learning more about
what you're up against is the first step in your
journey to being rid of all your disruptive, debilitating symptoms - once
and for all.
In Overcoming Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, you'll learn what medical
experts do know about this puzzling, rather controversial illness.
Not all physicians have heard of CFS or understand it (Karen's
doctor didn't), which is now used as a sort of catch-all for a variety
of illnesses
with overwhelming fatigue as their primary symptom.
Found in all races
and socioeconomic groups, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome affects both men
and women, though an estimated 85% of cases are women - mostly
in their forties and fifties. Karen was on the young side at 32.
What brings on CFS symptoms is still unknown. though there are a number
of competing theories that suggest Chronic Fatigue Syndrome comes from...
- An immune system malfunction
- An allergy to something in the environment
- A change in hormone levels
- Chronic hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Iron deficiency anemia
- Hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar
- Infections like mononucleosis or a cold
At present, the best the medical community can come up with is that
chronic fatigue syndrome is likely the result of a combination of genetic
and psychological
factors. Good evidence supports the idea that there is no one single
cause.
And while CFS might be a fact of life for over one million Americans,
there is, as yet, no test to identify the condition. If your doctor
is like my
girlfriend's, he'll order blood work that includes blood
count, chemistries, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and levels of thyroid
stimulating
hormones. You might be sent to a hospital sleep center to test for
sleep apnea.
If these tests come back normal (Karen's did), factors like your
weight, alcohol intake and other lifestyle issues will be considered in
search of an explanation. Your honesty (and sometimes even your sanity)
might be questioned... leaving you dejected and demoralized. Like Karen... you'll
probably feel as if you're on your own.
What bothered her most was the lack of control she had... she was too
tired to go out... to sick to work... in too much pain to enjoy
much of anything. Something had to change, and fast. We started looking
at the way we lived... what we ate and how little we exercised. How
hard we partied and how stressed we were. Without even realizing it, we
were doing all kinds of things that made Karen's chronic fatigue
syndrome symptoms so much worse.
As it turned out the changes we needed to make were simple ones... that
slowly, and with time brought the woman I loved from those lonely, exhausted
days back to the people and places she loved... back into my life.
If we can do it, you can too.
